The one-child policy has created more than just an imbalance in gender, it also, according to author Mei Fong, just accelerated an already existing problem down the road. That one being the young supporting a growing senior class. The difference being with other countries is that China had less time to rectify the coming issue.

In addition, with more educated women, they are less willing to have children. This is a naturally occurring problem for most developing countries with fertility rates gradually decreasing. The issue with China, however, is that with them already declined, its hard to encourage them once more, creating the looming issue of the working class supporting the retirees.

The unintentional effect of the one-child policy was also the increase in social awareness surrounding feminism and females. Increases awareness of feminist guys and female empowerment.

In addition, because of the elderly problem, the "little emperors" raised during the time period of the one-child policy will now be "little slaves" for their parents according to Mei Fong.
