Another unexpected result of China's One Child Policy, or the Family Planning Policy as called by China, is the Leftover Women. These women who had access to resources primarily meant for men, but that they could obtain since they were being pushed as the one child in the family.

However, while the role of women is being to change with this new batch of women being more career oriented and successful, its still overshadowed by the fact that many remain unmarried. The Leftover Women, while successful, are past the ideal societal marrying age. Since women are meant to marry up and men down, most men, even if there is a deficit of marrying women still won't marry these 'leftover women'. Some of these leftover women, however, have been choosing just to not get married at all.

While male wise, the economy may suffer from males trying to save up more money to garner a wife, women may boost it back. With leftover women maintaining their own paychecks, they are able to spend and put money into an economy originally dominated by men.
