Since the educated single women are nowadays in China self-sufficient ('leftover women) some are deciding that they would prefer to stay single. In addition, when they do want a partner they prefer someone who is in equal or higher social and financial standing as them. Not to mention that 1 in 5 men won't marry at all.
In addition, the reasoning behind the two genders staying single isn't on the same page. Males are preferring women who are mild and respectful while women prefer men who have money and integrity. Since looking for these specific qualities in one another is difficult, some are deciding to focus on themselves, which is leading to the boost in the single economy.
Singles have more money to spend on themselves, such as beauty products, insurance, and travel. While that industry is booming, there is a downside to the domestic market.
Even with all of this, the single culture is not as large as one might think. Only 3% of the marrying ability are wanting the single lifestyle. Others, especially men, are lonely and want to marry. Even so, divorce is on the rise with urbanization. Even so, marrying rates are only more on the low side in 1st tier cities, with 2nd and 3rd tier still up.
